Setting the scene: Brrrrrr. You escape that chilly wind and come into the warm embrace of friends reading Shakespeare around the fire, fortified by delicious wine and hot nibbles.
King Lear is an ancient folktale that was passed down orally from generation to generation. The story was adapted, embellished and changed to suit the speaker. And then Shakespeare got his hands on it! He created a play that has challenged, shocked and inspired people for hundreds of years and is one of the most magnificent examples of his genius. It’s not easy, but by goodness is it worth it.
We will read KING LEAR at Claire’s cosy home in Islington and then go to THE ALMEIDA THEATRE (also in Islington) to watch the magical DANNY SAPANI (Killing Eve, Hymn) taking on the title role, directed by staggeringly talented Yael Farber.
