FWS also creates and runs educational outreach programmes in collaboration with theatrical productions. We work together with the production to deliver workshops tailored to their show.
Why run an outreach programme?
Well, at the risk of stating the obvious, it’s about reaching out. About accessibility. We open up a form of entertainment seen as ‘elite’ to a younger, more diverse audience.
Shakespeare’s plays were written for a melting pot of people. Tickets started at just 1 penny. Affordable for, and attended by, all.
Theatre now feels out of reach, culturally and financially, for so many. Which is why it’s vital to bring everyone in! It’s what Shakey would’ve done.
Why Friends with Shakespeare?
Our latest partnership with Simon Godwin’s Macbeth, took Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma into 10 schools in 4 cities, directly reaching 160 students. It garnered National press attention (BBC and Sky News, amongst others) and rave reviews from students and teachers alike.
