5 WEEK EVENING COURSE
£294 includes 10 hours of guided reading with Claire Cartwright, food and drink, recap notes and theatre tickets
Setting the scene: The doors to Claire’s lush garden thrown open, evening sunlight flowing in, a cold glass of something delicious and you could pretend you’re basking in the Italian sunshine. Grab an olive and come and read some of the most sensational poetry in the English language.
Whether or not you have ever read this play, you no doubt know some of the lines; "A pair of star crossed lovers”, “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” and will probably have some sort of balcony and Leonardo DiCaprio floating around your head. This is one of those plays that’s so famous it’s easy to miss quite how good and quite how radical it is. Let’s challenge what you think you know about this spectacular tragedy.
We will read the ROMEO AND JULIET together IN PERSON except week 2 which will be ONLINE (Claire has to do some vital field research in Italy!) then head to THE ALMEIDA to see their seriously exciting new production, directed by Rebecca Frecknall (Who just directed the smash hit production of A Streetcard Named Desire for the Almeida) and starring Isis Hainsworth (Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour) and Emmy nominee Toheeb Jimoh (Ted Lasso).
Our dates for Romeo and Juliet are:
