Setting the scene: A light spring jacket flung over the arm of your comfy chair, legs curled up beneath you (if you are feeling flexible), a refreshing glass of wine and the serenade of birdsong to sweep you off into Ancient Britain. Come. On. In. Five weeks of diving into the text with friends and theeeeen…a road trip! We are heading to Shakespeare’s home town of Stratford Upon Avon for a Saturday matinee performance. Think Tudor architecture, swans, a river called Avon and the world’s finest Shakespeare theatre company.

Don’t know Cymbeline? You’re not the only one! This late play is not often studied and, relative to some of his blockbusters, is a rarely performed Shakespeare play. Come and be one of the clever few to appreciate its charms. Think ancient kings, wicked step mothers, poison, not-poison, adventure, rescue, long lost siblings and romance…it’s a goodie!

We will read CYMBELINE at Claire’s home in Islington and then go to THE ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY IN STRATFORD UPON AVON to watch GREGORY DORAN’S final production as Artistic Director of the RSC after a decade at the helm. Not only is this is last production but we are going to see it on its last day. It will be an extraordinary experience. One not to be missed.
